Finally after days of designing and planning we have our first house made. It has been encouraging to see students deep thinking as they have created each house. 'Where will the solar panels go?' 'Will a larger building consume more energy?' Several teams were actively planning and making today. The city is slowly showing signs of development. Students in 6S celebrated their graduation today. Students receiving their qualifications have successfully completed all of the required tasks for Eco Warriors, in preparation for the making of the Eco city 'Eden'. Mrs Simpson Excellent leadership shown by the Shops and Facilities Team Manager. The group is working closely with their Architects to plan the best locations for their buildings.
They have been communicating regularly with the Parks and Community team and the Housing team. Miss Morrison Today Parks and Communities began the session with diligence and enthusiasm. The students selected another 'Team Manager' who efficiently organised members into sub-groups. The sub-groups will focus on particular areas: Miss. Morrison Emergency services begin the planning phase of designing their 3 service elements - Police, Fire and Ambulance Services. The Project Managers and Head Architects delivered the scaled plan of Eden with allocations for the location of the Emergency Services. Scaled designs of Fire Trucks and Ambulances have begun with students researching dimensions and features. Mrs Worthington Today we launched the matrix PBL. Students began the session with team meetings where they decided on a team manager and began the planning process. The model is set, with zoning drawn up in chalk. Teams are now ready to plan within their relevant areas. The Project Managers and Architects were exploring the model to see where the zoning has been drawn up. The Transport team was busy getting the main arterial roads drawn up as a first step towards planning for housing and facilities. It was fantastic to see excellent collaboration amongst students as they shared ideas for the final project. The National Parks and Wildlife Teams wasted no time in getting outdoors to collect bush debris that will form part if their construction materials. By the end of the day, students, in teams, collated a list of resources needed to achieve their 'maker' dreams. Mrs. Simpson will be taking this list on the first shopping trip. We will also be starting to check our spending against the $20 budget allocated to each team. The budget was approved by the Mayor (Mr. Grimes) and will be distributed by the Town Planners (Zone teachers ). This week has seen students in the Zone watch a safety demonstration, complete an online quiz and attend a safety assessment. There is a real buzz in the space as we approach PBL week. Today students had the opportunity to attend a workshop run by one of our dads. Me. Malcolm is a project manager who kindly offered to share his knowledge about 'Project Management'. The workshops focused on various kinds of projects, natural resources, environmental protection and more. Me. Malcolm explained the role of the Project Manager in delivering/ managing the project on behalf of the client. Students enjoyed discussions around energy and pollution. "Coal is not the best sort of energy because it really pollutes the air" - Peter H It was excellent to reflect on God's word in relation to caring for and developing the earth he gave us as our home. The verse Mr. Malcolm used in his workshop is one of our unit verses from the book of Genesis. |
