Today we congratulated the first three students who completed all of their tasks in order to receive their Qualifications for the Upcoming PBL. This has inspired many more students to keep focused as they complete the last few tasks in order to obtain their relevant Degree.
We were thrilled to have Mr. Inman with us today to share information about the role of a Project Manager. Students from several teams attended and were able to clarify and ask questions about what Project Management is all about. Students are working hard on completing tasks. Most have now submitted one task in each of the Built Envuronments and Living Things strands. Many are busy making models, while others are starting to think about their recycled art projects. We also announced teams for the PBL today. It was exciting to see students take on their roles within teams. Some teams have already gathered to meet and greet and share ideas. We are also excited about some parent-run information workshops that will begin to run in The Zone from this Friday. This video was used in the launch session for Eco Warriors, giving small insights into the unit and what is about to unfold.
The above student journal is the main working booklet that will explain, guide and assist students throughout the Eco Warriors unit. It outlines requirements and helps them organise their thinking and documentation of learning throughout the term, leading up to the final Exhibition Night in June.
Students have now finished their planning phase which has seen them select a range of tasks that will help qualify them for joining the team of their choice for the PBL. As they work towards gaining a qualification in the field of their choice, we are seeing interests and skills emerge within the group. Many students are now starting to think ahead towards the PBL (week 7-9) and coming up with some interesting ideas for the city model. Below are some examples of student work as they work on their selected tasks. A few tasks require construction and making of models, while others are focussed on planning and development of scaled plans with detailed keys, showing a wide range of information. During the very busy week 2, we launched the Eco Warriors unit to Stage 3. The session involved much conversation around the key concepts of Environmental Responsibility, Sustainability and Community. Students had opportunities to discuss the meaning of these concepts in small teams and add their views to the 'Eco Warriors Thinking Wall'. Next we answered some key questions as lines of inquiry for the unit. Again students had the chance to explore what the meaning of the unit is and what ideas they will further investigate and explore throughout this term. Tim showed the teachers and some of his friends his 3D shoebox model. His peek-a-boo window made the scale very real and showed off the 3D effect very successfully. Welcome to the ECO warriors Learning BLOG page. This is where you will find information and ongoing documentation about the integrated unit for Stage 3 in Term 2. Teachers will document and evaluate the learning of students as they explore their own curiosities around an ECO and sustainable future, Built Environments and the impact of Living Things on the environment.
